One day.
I will hear your name as I do often in passing-and smile.
Smile cleanly without the burden of longing
I will smile because I don’t know where you are or how you are doing
But that’s the romance of loss
Loss is important
I hope to never forget you but when that day comes it will be the real end
When I look back on this time with a gentle laugh and softness in my chest. That will be the day. You sparked often but burnt out quick
It never lasts. Like dry leaves
Nothing would come of it - but I did love you and you me
It will live as a hermetic memory- and then
When least expecting another love will come.
It will arrive once I’ve forgotten you to the winds of my new life.
It will sweep me away, two birds in the same current this time
When I land again, perhaps in nest, I will think of you and how far we could have flown in a storm but how much nicer it is to fly in clear skies.
I’ll have my worms and eggs all the same- and in my hour of comfort I’ll desire the strangeness and stranger of old.
